The International Tenure Facility (TF) has concluded a weeklong annual monitoring visit to Liberia. A delegation from TF arrived in Liberia from February 21-27, 2026, as guests of its Liberian partners, the Sustainable Development Institute (SDI), Parley Liberia, and the Foundation for Community Initiatives (FCI).

TF is funding a project implemented by the three Liberian organizations titled: KEEPING THE PROMISE. Expanding and Strengthening Community Land and Forest Governance for a Sustainable Future. It is being implemented in Grand Bassa, River Cess, Sinoe, River Gee, Bong, Lofa, and Nimba Counties with a covered land space of 683,934 hectares.

While in Liberia, TF was fully briefed and given comprehensive details on the achievements and challenges of Phase II of its funded project. The Liberian partner organizations outlined strategic priorities and implementation approaches for Phase III.

A dedicated session was also organized between selected Customary Land Development and Management Committee (CLDMC) leaders from seven counties and the Tenure Facility delegation. During this engagement, community representatives shared progress made, articulated their development goals, and discussed plans for strengthening local land governance systems.

In addition, the delegation and partners met with key government institutions, including the Liberia Land Authority (LLA), Forestry Development Authority (FDA), and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). It was aimed at reaffirming collaboration, strengthening institutional partnerships, and discussing expectations and priorities for the next phase of implementation.

The visit provided an important platform for accountability, learning, and strategic alignment as all partners collectively advance community land rights and sustainable land governance in Liberia.
